MarineOS Constitution

Version: 0.1 (Draft)

Purpose

The MarineOS Constitution defines the fundamental engineering principles of the MarineOS platform.

Every architectural decision, implementation and future extension shall comply with these principles.

Principles

1. Architecture First

Architecture is designed before implementation.

2. Keep the Core Minimal

The Core provides platform services only.

Business functionality belongs to modules.

3. Everything is Modular

Every feature shall be replaceable whenever possible.

4. World Model First

The World Model is the Single Source of Truth.

Applications communicate through the World Model.

5. Information over Devices

MarineOS works with information.

Hardware only provides information.

6. API First

Every capability shall be accessible through documented APIs.

7. Security by Design

Security is part of the architecture.

It is never added afterwards.

8. Offline First

MarineOS shall remain operational without Internet connectivity.

9. Vendor Independence

No unnecessary dependency on vendors or manufacturers.

10. Engineering before Coding

Requirements, architecture and documentation precede implementation.

11. Quality over Speed

Maintainability has priority over implementation speed.

12. Simplicity

Whenever multiple solutions exist, choose the simplest maintainable one.
